EDUCATION Schools in Edwardsville and Nearby Communities This section focuses primarily on the Edwardsville area but much more information about schools in other good towns can be found on our web site, or in our "Homework" series. Edwardsville is justly proud of its public and private schools. While Edwardsville area schools enjoy that general reputation, we feel that in delivering information to you here, our job is to point you to definitive data without too much interpretation. This note: The Edwardsville area schools are managed by a "Community Unit District", meaning that a single school board operates all of the public schools from a single district office (links below). This is similar to all of the other school units in Madison County, but distinctly different than many of the schools in St. Clair County. Schools in the Edwardsville School District >> Click Here This is www.ecusd7.org. It's the official site of District 7, the Unit School District serving Edwardsville and Glen Carbon, and a great deal of countryside. The "unit" description means that one school board manages the entire public school system, from K through 12. The Edwardsville District includes the cities of Glen Carbon, Edwardsville, Worden and Hamel, and countryside communities known as Midway, Moro, Dorsey and Pin Oak. It includes Holiday Shores, too, a lake community 8 miles north of Edwardsville .so all in all, it's a large district, including quite a bit of rural area. Because this school district is targeted by many relocating families, we often sort through the Multiple Listing Service by the school district. This site recently won an award of excellence. The school district is regarded as one of the best in the state. It has strong academic, art, music and sports programs, and a huge number of extra curricular activities. It's baseball team were state champs a couple of years ago, and "small town pride" always backs good sports teams, boys and girls. In our informational system under "schools", we have a great deal more information, and links to still more .school report cards, clippings from the paper about important school events and the like. For more information, ask for "Schools" and "School Clippings".
