There are two major grocery stores….Schnuck's and Shop and Save. The former is a major St. Louis area brand…the latter a discount chain also common in the area.

Target, a Sears Hardware Store, a Wal Mart Super Store and Home Depot line Highway 159 between Edwardsville and Glen Carbon, along with dozens of smaller stores.

Edwardsville's downtown area…centered around the Madison County Courthouse, has remained extremely viable, because of the influence of county government. More than 2000 county employees and great numbers of visitors still live and buy "downtown". New offices, bank expansions and a new Walgreen store are major events.

Edwardsville/Glen Carbon also lies between two regional shopping centers, Alton Square at Alton, and St. Clair Square at Fairview Heights, each about 11 miles from the center of town. Shopping centers in St. Louis are within easy driving distance.
